Birthday gift to myself
Oct 09, 2022I was talking to a friend of mine about how my sister was going to be out of the country over my birthday in September. My friend asked me what would you do if you could do anything on your birthday?
Immediately this museum in Massachusetts came to my mind.
I had to do some research to find the name and location. I had heard the story many years ago about how a Russian couple bought a masonic hall and transformed it by painting every inch of the inside.
I gave myself a birthday gift of a private tour of the Museum of modern renaissance.
When Nicolas met us at the door. He looked at my best friend, Betsy and said more coming? 30 years later Nicolas and Katerina both still have thick Russian accents. Betsy said yes only the two of us.
Nicholas went on to describe all of the Russian mythos behind each of the paintings. He showed us how they were constructed. At one point I asked him if it was ever overwhelming to sleep amongst all these vibrant colors. He said no. They had done this to feel more at home. This was their house. He said they called it a museum because the word museum actually means home for the muses.
I wanted to show you in this story when I asked to use a bathroom.
I was showing my way to the tea pot bathroom.
Every part every inch of this home is painted and designed with doors brought in from Indonesia, handmade furniture etc. when someone talks about a labor of love it truly is demonstrated here.
I love that I gave myself this gift for my birthday.
It was such a joy to spend the day with my friend Betsy.
I also love discovering new places and having new adventures and I will always be a lifelong learner.
